Our take

An ex-con and a mobster’s girlfriend meet, want each other immediately, and decide to steal two million dollars. It is a tight, stylish neo-noir that happens to be built entirely around a queer relationship, at a time when the genre reliably killed one of them off by the third act.

The Wachowskis brought in Susie Bright to make sure the sex scenes were written by someone who knew what she was doing, and the difference is obvious. Both women survive, both women get the money, and the film never treats either as a lesson.
