Our take
Adam, a screenwriter in a nearly empty London tower block, starts a relationship with the only other resident and simultaneously begins visiting his childhood home, where his parents are alive and the same age they were when they died in the 1980s. He comes out to them. They react like people from 1987.
Andrew Haigh made it in the house he actually grew up in, which explains a lot. It is about the specific grief of never having been known by the people who raised you, and Andrew Scott and Paul Mescal are both extraordinary. The last ten minutes are among the most upsetting in modern film. Bring someone.
