Our take
Enemies to lovers, at a state banquet, with a cake. It is a straightforward adaptation of a very popular novel and it is not trying to be anything more complicated than a good time — the politics are a fairy tale and the obstacles get resolved with a phone call.
What it does well is treat a gay romance with the full budget-and-soundtrack apparatus that straight rom-coms have always had, without a single scene of suffering as the price of admission. Nicholas Galitzine and Taylor Zakhar Perez have real chemistry. Watch it on a bad day.

The plot, officially
After an altercation between Alex, the president's son, and Britain's Prince Henry at a royal event becomes tabloid fodder, their long-running feud now threatens to drive a wedge in U.S./British relations. When the rivals are forced into a staged truce, their icy relationship begins to thaw and the friction between them sparks something deeper than they ever expected.
