Our take
Where Paris Is Burning observed the ball scene from outside, Pose lives in it. Three seasons follow Blanca as she starts her own house against the backdrop of the AIDS crisis, with the largest cast of trans actors in series regular roles in television history and trans writers and directors — Janet Mock foremost — running the show.
Mj Rodriguez and Billy Porter are magnificent, Elektra gets the best lines ever written, and the third season’s treatment of dying and of who does the caring is unflinching. It is a Ryan Murphy show, so it is glossy and occasionally sentimental. It is also the most important queer series of the last decade.
