Jill Soloway’s series about the Pfeffermans, a Los Angeles family whose father comes out as a trans woman and whose three adult children respond by making it about themselves. It was sharp on Jewish family life, on selfishness, and on how transition ripples through everyone nearby.

It also cast a cisgender man in the lead, which was contested at the time and became untenable after allegations against Jeffrey Tambor ended his involvement; the show wrote him out and finished with a musical film. The trans writers and crew it brought into the industry are arguably its most durable legacy.
